About This Spot

El Amoroso greets you like a well-kept secret nestled in the heart of Los Angeles’ vibrant neighborhood of Atwater Village. It’s the kind of spot where time slows down just enough to invite you into an easy rhythm — the hum of familiar voices, the soft clatter of plates, and the scent of home-cooked Salvadoran flavors moving through the air. The pace here is unhurried but warm, with a sense that everyone walking in is about to share more than just a meal.

Inside, the atmosphere blends straightforward comfort with genuine care. This isn’t a polished, pristine dining room aiming to impress at first sight, but rather a cozy, lived-in space where the focus is on honest food and thoughtful service. It feels like stepping into a friend’s kitchen, where the menu reads like an invitation to experience the tastes and textures of El Salvador — from the sweetness of fried plantains paired with creamy beans to the vibrant heat of spicy shrimp dishes. Each plate carries with it an unspoken story, one of tradition and neighborhood life.

What stands out most at El Amoroso is its ability to welcome all ages and backgrounds with equal warmth. Whether you come for a quick lunch or a leisurely dinner, you’re met with staff who take the time to understand what you’re craving, often guiding you to find just the right balance of flavors. The house-made hot sauce, the hand-pressed tortillas, the nourishing soups — these all show a careful attention to making each bite feel familiar and satisfying.

Here, you’ll find that mealtime eases into something quietly joyful. It’s not about flash or trends, but about connection — a shared moment over generous plates filled with soulful food. Families, longtime locals, and newcomers alike find their rhythm together, creating an atmosphere that is both grounded and alive with everyday kindness.

I came for the Caldo and Pupusas. They were good but I was surprised the female server charged us hot water (no refills) for 3.25 each x 2 = $6.50. it wasn't anywhere in the menu nor did she mention it before serving there is a charge for hot water. Avoid the female server and look for the other guy who is super nice and efficient. I came back because the other guy was worth my visit.

Amazing service, amazing lunch. I forgot the word for plantain in Spanish but the server understood I wanted plátanos fritos. He recommended the plátanos frito con frijol y crema. Which I think went amazing with the pan con pollo. The chicken was juicy and the hot sauce they provided was the right balance of spicy and consistency. Great flavors honest working helping people. All generations seemed to be present when I went for lunch. Another great small business.

Sweet staff and slay prices, breakfast plate with the plátanos and huevos rancheros were good but lowkey would skip out on the pupusas, the one I go the mass was so thick and lowkey not that good. Horchata was okay, kind of nutty, I would opt out for Jamaica next time if possible.

I often came to this restaurant when I lived in Los Angeles before it changed the name. This time I visited Los Angeles from San Diego and wanted to visit this restaurant again. I'm glad I did because the food is still very good, the service is still very good, and the prices are very reasonable. Especially, the pupursas here are the best as my Salvadorean friends told me. We've tried many Salvadorean restaurants, and I can confirm it's the best here.

Based on service and what I ordered is come back again. Portions were large, and delicious, and well priced. I’d definitely recommend this place for a large family looking to have a nice meal without hurting your pockets. Pupusas were $3.50 large and filled with cheese. Tacos were big $2.50 seasoned well with lots of meat. My yucca plate was $8.00. Honestly I was expecting like a small side dish ended up taking half of it home but it was so good I wanted to keep eating. If you’re considering or have seen it just stop by. It’s very welcoming and can’t say enough good things about the service.

This was a cute little place to eat dinner. We all ordered something different and enjoyed the different Fair. There were beef, pork, and chicken entrees on our table and everything was delicious. We also each had a different beverage. Three of us chose a cold beverage and one had a hot pineapple drink. They were all unique and delicious. Well my sister and I were only visiting the area. We would eat here again if in the area for vacation or visiting. My nephew and his wife moved to the area and said they would for sure be back because the food was so good. We did end up taking enough leftovers home for another meal.

Yummy food, clean and festive interior. I went at lunch time and there were many customers- a good sign that the food is good. I asked for recommendations and the friendly staff recommended the beef stew- type dish and the pupusas. Both very good and distinct from other Mexican food that I have had in La. Muy delicioso!!!
